Jake Horowitz from the Public Safety Performance Project of The Pew Center on the States will present "Less Crime at Lower Cost," an analysis of the scale, cost and drivers of the U.S. correctional population; a summary of how the states compare; and an overview of current efforts to improve the public safety return on taxpayer investments.

Launched in 2006, the Public Safety Performance Project seeks to help states advance fiscally sound, data-driven policies and practices in sentencing and corrections that protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and control corrections costs. As program manager, Jake Horowitz oversees the projects technical assistance efforts in several states as well as its research and publications. Prior to joining Pew, Jake served as a social science analyst with the National Institute of Justice and a legislative fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is a graduate of Reed College and Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
