West Linn Wilsonville School District

• Welcome   to the West Linn - Wilsonville School District ...

As Superintendent, my primary responsibility is to create the learning and leadership environment for the school district. Leadership and learning are founded on our belief that the manner and style of leadership in the district will directly influence how children are taught in the classroom. The learning and leadership environment should be based on strong relationships embedded in collaborative decision making processes with high expectations for effective results. Relationships are everything, especially in the world of public schools. Education is a human endeavor and worthy achievements are accomplished by people for people. Strong relationships with board, community, staff, unions, and governmental agencies are my focus. Key values in building strong relationships are respect for others, honesty, integrity, full disclosure, safe haven, and honoring commitments. High quality processes must be well-planned and require the involvement of appropriate stakeholders in a meaningful manner with effective communication about purpose, use of good listening skills, and quality feedback information. Process is a significant part of everyday life in our district. We have sophisticated future search and visioning processes, a “systems thinking” approach to district and school improvement, site councils at each school, board advisory committees, specially assigned task forces, and a stewardship process to keep the district vision themes energized. I believe our board and administration must be “students of leadership” to understand the dynamic processes at work in our society. Results are the products and outcomes we value. The results that we value are extracted from the essential question: “How will we develop a learning community of the greatest thinkers and most thoughtful people for the world?” The keys to answering that question lie in the district Vision Themes. Visit the West Linn - Wilsonville School District website to view the vision themes and complete text from the Superintendent.
